5 Purrfect Reasons To Play With Your Cat
March 1, 2023

Did you know that playing with your cat is great for her, both mentally and physically? It’s easy to joke about how lazy and sleepy our feline friends are, but at the end of the day, they need to stay active to stay healthy. Playtime is definitely a big part of that! A Champions Forest, TX vet lists some reasons to get that laser pointer below.

Exercise

Catching Z’s is a popular kitty pastime, but it won’t burn anywhere near as much energy as catching mice would. Those daily play sessions are most likely going to be your furry friend’s main workout.

Stimulation

Playing is also important for enrichment and stimulation, both of which are crucial for Fluffy’s mental health and well-being. Your feline pal can get quite bored just sitting around staring at the walls all day! Boredom is just as detrimental for kitties as it is for people. In fact, it can actually lead to health issues. For instance, some kitties will over-groom themselves if they feel lonely. Others may stop eating, or even become aggressive.

Confidence

Do you have a scaredy cat on your hands? Playing may actually do your timid pet a world of good! Landing that complicated pounce-and-roll trick may very well be the boost of self-esteem Fluffy needs. Think of it as the kitty version of scoring a goal or winning a contest at school.

Bonding

When you hold that feather toy or remote-controlled mouse for your feline buddy to chase after, she’ll know that you are doing something just to make her happy. That will definitely go a long way as far as winning Fluffy’s love and trust. Playing is also good for helping kitties learn to get along with each other. If you’ve adopted a second cat, playing with them together may help break the ice between them. Just take care to show both your furry buddies equal attention!

It’s Cute

Kitties are always cute, but they are extra adorable when they’re feeling silly and playful. Watching Fluffy pounce on that little red dot or run after that feather toy is bound to brighten up your day. It’s almost impossible not to smile when watching a furball hard at play!
