OUR VETERINARIANS

Meet the folks who make it all happen. We see big potential in every moment, & care deeply about what we do every day.

Dr. Chelsea Byrd

Medical Director

Even as a young child, Dr. Chelsea Byrd felt a strong calling to work with animals. While her family always had pets – from horses to turtles and everything in between – Dr. Byrd’s most cherished companion growing up was a cat named Morris (a.k.a. Orris, a.k.a. Mo). When Morris became ill and was hospitalized, Dr. Byrd made a promise to become a vet so she could learn how to fix him as well as other people’s “Mo’s.” And the rest, as they say, is history!

Dr. Byrd attended high school in North Texas, where she received her high school and International Baccalaureate degree. This allowed her to enter college at Colorado State University as a sophomore. There, she was admitted to the Vet Start Program followed by the CSU Vet School. Once she obtained her degree, Dr. Byrd moved back to the Spring area to be closer to family. She’s been practicing for more than a decade and became part of The Corner Vet team in 2020.

Professionally, Dr. Byrd loves the unpredictability and excitement of the veterinary field. She has a particular interest in urgent care, because it enables her to deliver quick and effective relief to hurting pets. When she’s not busy bonding with patients or working through treatment options with her team, Dr. Byrd is always looking for new ways to improve her practice and knowledge so she can offer our patients as many quality services as possible.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Byrd has two sons and a daughter, all of whom love to visit Mommy’s work. The family also has a virtual zoo of their own, including a dog, three cats, a turtle, a ball python, a red-tail boa and a judgmental bearded dragon. They also have a hamster and a rat, as well as a variety of frogs and fish. Suffice it to say, there’s never a dull moment at the Byrd house!

When she’s not nose-deep in a good mystery novel or getting her hands dirty in her butterfly garden, Dr. Byrd can usually be found spending quality time with her family (two-legged and four), and going on different adventures together. The beach is a favorite spot for them any time of year.

Dr. Josie Flowers, DVM

Owner/Chief Medical Officer

Leadership

Like most in the veterinary industry, Dr. Flowers has always had a deep compassion for animals. However, she did not set out, nor did she ever wish upon any star in the known galaxy, to one day own a veterinary practice. Who would want that kind of stress? Practicing is stressful enough! Yet, for the first time in her storied life, she finally feels as though she has found her true calling: taking care of the people who care for the animals.

While attending Texas A&M for both her undergraduate and post-graduate education, Dr. Flowers spent time volunteering at an equine-only practice and also worked at several small animal and exotic clinics. Her goal was to gain experience in a little bit of everything. Following her graduation in May of 2008, Dr. Flowers moved to Greenville, TX to join a mixed animal practice. In 2015, she joined The Corner Vet team as an Associate Veterinarian. In May of 2016, she was promoted to Chief Medical Officer, and in June of 2020, she officially purchased the practice.

Professionally, Dr. Flowers is most passionate about helping veterinary students and newly graduated veterinarians navigate the transition from student to practitioner. The first year in practice is the most important and sets the stage for the remainder of one’s career and quite honestly, one’s personal life as well. She enjoys putting teams together, building the practice around the doctor and staff, and creating a culture that is both fulfilling and allows for balance on the home front.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Flowers is a proud Mom to two amazing kids: a daughter and a son. Her family resides in Rockwall, TX. Between single parenting, making ball games and practices, serving on the PTA Board, serving as Den Leader in Cub Scouts, travelling to Houston for business and serving in her life group at church, she spends what little remaining free time she has with her family.

If there’s any advice that Dr. Flowers could give, it’s that life is short. You only get one, so don’t waste it. And above all, do not lose your sense of humor. Whether she’s going Mach 10, trying to do twenty things at once, putting her underwear on inside out, or putting her coffee mug in the fridge, Dr. Flowers is always ready for a good laugh.

Dr. Genevieve Hoffman

Veterinarian

There are various reasons why veterinarians choose to enter the world of animals. For Dr. Genevieve, the reason is simple – she wanted to connect not only with patients, but also with clients. As a veterinarian at Veterinary Health Center, she relishes the opportunity to help animals bond with their humans!

Dr. Genevieve’s journey began as a young girl in Hemlock, MI, where she raised dogs, cats and rabbits. She was always curious as to why pets develop the problems they do, and finding out ways to help make them feel better. Dr. Genevieve would go on to attend Michigan State University, where she would complete her pre-veterinary courses, and then graduate from the school’s veterinary program.

Currently, Dr. Genevieve’s pets include her Golden Retriever named Cooper, her cat, Auburn, and her rabbit, Coriander. In her free time she enjoys taking exciting kayaking trips with her family, and always looks forward to camping up north during the summer months!
